Autism: now there is A (i) uTiAmo, the Mind Foundation project for children and families that was still missing

Leone is a beautiful boy of almost 9 years. When he was first diagnosed with Autism Spectrum with Communication Disorder, he was just 18 months old. That moment inexorably marked the life of his family, but “we rolled up our sleeves, amidst rivers of tears albeit granted in rare moments, fatigue, collapses but also a great desire to make it”, says the mother Vanessa Bozzaghi on the website of the Mente Foundation, created together with his partner Manuele D’Oppido to promote innovative and concrete interventions to support individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders and their families, and officially presented today, in the World Autism Awareness Day.

“This initiative arouses strong and complementary emotions in us: the will to lend a hand to those who live and will experience a disorientation like oursthe responsibility to act with a clear mission and above all the need to act quickly to give life to projects, perhaps to the detriment of the ‘perfect start’ being engaged on many fronts: from updating information materials and the website to completing the obligations bureaucrats, ”he explains Manuele D’Oppidowhich in the Mind Foundation plays the role of President.

For Leone, over the years, a thousand traditional, experimental and parallel therapies have been sought and tried, which have certainly helped him, however “we understood, however, that for children like him, play is a must, interest is not taken for grantedinclusion is rare and funny, goliardic and various things are few if not rare ».

The gaps in support, therapies and inclusion found have become the driving force behind the efforts made by Vanessa and Manuele, not only in the creation of Mind Foundation but specifically in the design of the project A (i) usewhich has as its first objective there creation of an innovative therapeutic-recreational-sports center in Rome.

«The intent is to create a structure of which there is no trace at the moment, a place that can fill all the gaps that I have found in recent years“, explains Vanessa Bozzacchi, vice-president of the Foundation. «Those that already exist are centers purely dedicated to therapy or integration, but there is no multifunctional place that is both playful and therapeutic, or where play, fun, laboratories, therapies, sports can coexist; a truly “inclusive” place that can also accommodate children who do not have neurodevelopmental disorders“.

The social campaign #iosonoleon

The birth of the Mente Foundation was announced in recent weeks by the social campaign #iosonoleon, which was joined by several Italian personalities from the world of entertainment. Alongside the two founders, the Board of Directors also includes recognized professionals such as Sara Sozzani MainoHead of Vogue Talents, e Alessia Mantovanipsychologist and psychotherapist.
