Next-gen Xbox consoles support the unusual Auto HDR feature that adds HDR support to older games. This function automatically boosts the brightness of specific areas of the image up to 1000 cd / m22.

This feature is reportedly coming to Windows now. Moreover, the function will work even in DirectX 11. In fact, the gamer only needs a suitable monitor. The feature is already working in the Windows 10 Insider build (21337), and will later appear in the final version.

Microsoft claims the feature will work in over 1,000 games.
