A former prime minister, the current deputy prime minister and the governor of the central bank are among dozens of suspects brought before Malta's justice system over a hospital privatization scandal that has rocked the ruling party just a month before European elections. Joseph Muscat, the Labor prime minister from 2013-2020, and one of his former ministers, Konrad Michie, are accused of corruption in public office and money laundering, according to court documents released today in the possession of the French Agency. It is the first time a former prime minister will be tried by a criminal court on this small Mediterranean island, which is a member of the EU.
