The franchise director Avatar, James Cameron 69, said Michelle Yeoh’s character, 62, Dr. Karina Mogue will not be in the third film of the sequel “Avatar 3”.
After appearing in a photo published in 2021 by the late producer Jon Landau on the set of the film, rumors that the scientist would make an appearance in this part of the story arose among fans. “That was a little misinterpreted,” Cameron said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly at Disney’s D23 Convention on August 9.
According to him, since the franchise is planned and the scripts are ready, the filming of the next parts of the sequel is already underway. “We are getting ahead of ourselves now. All of this was planned many years ago. The scripts were all written years ago, up until the end of film five.”
He continued: “We’ve been working on parts of all four as we’ve gone along, especially because we have such a young cast. We had to film them all while they were still young.”
The director did not suggest any discomfort that would lead to the actress’ exclusion from the third film. “She has always been a movie star, but now she has become a huge phenomenon. I am looking forward to working with her,” he said in the interview.
Michelle Yeoh has films such as “007 – Tomorrow Never Dies” (1997), “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” (2000), “Memoirs of a Geisha” (2005) and “Kingdom of Assassins” (2010) on her resume. In 2023, she received the Oscar for “Best Actress” for his performance in the film “Everything Everywhere at the Same Time”.
The third installment in the Avatar franchise is scheduled to hit theaters on December 19, 2025, followed by “Avatar 4” on December 21, 2029, and “Avatar 5” on December 19, 2031.
