The world set a new record for average global temperature by registering the third hottest day of the week, according to data from the US National Centers for Environmental Prediction (CPC).
Before, the post of hottest day in 10 years was occupied by Tuesday (4) – which registered an increase in temperatures by 17.18 ° C -, followed by Monday (3) – which hit 17.01 ° C .
However, the top spot has just been taken by Thursday (6) which saw temperatures rise by 17.23°C.
The previous record for that week in July was recorded in 2016 when the thermometers hit 16.92 °C.
Experts already say that these are the highest temperatures recorded in a hundred years.
The expectation is that in the next six weeks new temperature records will be observed.
The explanation for this phenomenon centers on climate change, increasingly accentuated by human action, in addition to the El Niño event — a natural event caused by the warming of the waters of the Atlantic Ocean that occurs every 5 or 7 years.
