Abras (Brazilian Association of Supermarkets) recorded a drop of 9.89% in the price of twelve items in the basket of basic foods for wide consumption. The survey, released firsthand to CNN Brasil, compares September with the last survey, which took place in July this year. In August, there was no data collection.
The biggest drops were observed in long-life milk (-15.49%), in soybean oil (-11.83%), in beans (-10.17%), in refined sugar (-2.17%), in beef (-1.49%), ground coffee (-1.26%) and rice (-1.06%).
The increases recorded were in cassava flour (5.41%), wheat flour (3.58%), cheese (3.13%), macaroni (1.77%) and margarine (1.41%).
The Association believes that the downward movement in prices will continue in the coming months. “We are very optimistic and we have observed that the fall in inflation has already caused an increase in the purchasing power of families”, says João Galassi, president of Abras.
“Data indicate, for example, that Children’s Day will see a significant increase in consumption. The economy is heating up again”, analyzes Galassi.
The expectation is also positive for consumption on Black Friday. Abras also cites a survey by the Ipsos Institute that shows that the purchase intention of class C increased by 32% compared to 2021. Classes A and B showed an increase of 23%.
