THE genetic sequencing of avian influenza detected in birds in a Sapucaia do Sul (RS) zoo and a commercial farm in Montenegro (RS) indicated same strain as the virus in both cases said on Tuesday (20) the director of the Department of Surveillance and Animal Sanitary Defense of the Secretariat of Agriculture of Rio Grande do Sul, Rosane Collares.
However, according to Collares, it is not yet possible to “say that there is a direct relationship between the two” recorded cases in the cities of Rio Grande do Sul.
Infection in humans
The State Health Surveillance Center (CEVs) clarifies that the risk of aviary influenza infection in humans is considered low.
Transmission occurs mainly in cases of direct and frequent contact with sick, alive or dead animals.
There is no risk of eating well -cooked or properly prepared foods, and transmission between people is still extremely rare.
According to the protocols adopted, individuals who have had contact with infected animals are monitored for ten days.
For a human case to be officially considered suspicious, there must be clinical symptoms combined with epidemiological evidence, such as exposure to contaminated birds or remains.
