“Amazing” smartphone from the creators of Essential Phone: new details about OSOM OV1

The creators of the Essential PH-1 smartphone are making a new OSOM OV1 phone, which will be fully announced in the summer and released this year. During MWC, company founder and CEO Jason Keats revealed more details about the upcoming OV1. Recall that OSOM is an abbreviation of Out of sight, Out of mind, consonant with the word awesome (“cool”, “amazing”). The model name OV1 stands for OSOM Vault 1.

The company decided to delay the release of the phone until the fourth quarter. Based on the timing of the release of this release, it is assumed that the flagship smartphone can be built on the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 single-chip system.

One of the benefits of the OV1 will be privacy, which will be integrated into the USB-C cable that comes with the phone. The rendering was provided by Tech Crunch, which shows that the USB-C plug has a physical switch that allows the user to decide if the cable should pass data or power only. Osom also intends to sell this cable separately, although the price has yet to be confirmed.

OSOM OV1 will have a stainless steel body with a display protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. In addition, the phone will receive a ceramic back cover. The phone will be physically larger than the Essential PH-1, but with a larger battery that should last “all day”. The dual camera will receive Sony image sensors with a resolution of 48 and 12 megapixels. On the front, there will be a 16-megapixel selfie camera.

It is noted that the company does not want to be tied to any carriers, as it was with Essential’s Sprint, so OV1 will be able to support two physical SIM cards. It will also support ultra-broadband connectivity and is said to be priced “well below $1,000”.
