With the release of the miniseries “Senna” from Netflix, last Friday (29), searches for career and personal life of the Brazilian pilot returned to the media spotlight.
Among the highlights of the moment is the old romance between the renowned athlete, who died at the age of 34, in May 1994, during an accident at the Ímola Grand Prix, in Italy, and presenter Xuxa Meneghel, 61.
Together, they had one of the most talked about relationships in the country. The relationship, however, came to an end in 1990, due to a series of speculations.
Now, in the recent production, the public followed details of the union and, on social media, highlighted some reasons that led to the end. See below:
Difficulty reconciling schedules
In the third episode of the series “Xuxa, the Documentary” available on Globoplay, the eternal queen of short people said that the relationship came to an end due to their busy and almost incompatible schedules, which contributed to them seeing little of each other.
When asked by Hebe if she was thinking about getting married, Meneghel said that she was not considering making the union official so soon. “I’m already well married even with work, I have a lot to do. We won’t see each other for another month. So time really flies by. He spends a lot of time traveling, but when we can, we are together”, he said.
Interference by Marlene Mattos, Xuxa’s former manager
In her documentary, Xuxa also said that Marlene Mattos, her former manager, made the romance difficult.
“It was hell, because Marlene worked with me at the time and made my life hell with him. He said that I wasn’t supposed to be with him and that I I should choose between my work and him . Every time I was with him, I already knew that the next day I was going to have a horrible dog day,” she said.
Ayrton Senna says Xuxa was “delirious” about his work
In 1990, during an interview with the magazine Playboy the three-time world champion said that the couple spent weeks apart. “I had more time. Even so, we were together for two weeks, and apart for four. The big problem is that Xuxa is crazy about her profession, and simply closes herself off in her world. I think I was one of the only ones who managed to get into it. I got to know very, very particular things about the interior of Xuxa”, he revealed.
“Like her, I am also special. Despite this, it was difficult. Xuxa does not provide conditions for the relationship. You don’t have time to really think about a family, about having your little one, your little one. These things don’t fall from the sky. She dreams, but doesn’t work to change her life”, he said at the time.
Xuxa thought she would meet Senna again
On the “Quem Pode, Pod” podcast, Xuxa said that she hoped to meet him so they could be together away from the professional partnership with her ex-businesswoman.
“I don’t know if I would still be with him, I don’t know if he would be alive, I know I would be someone else. It remains in the symbolic field”, he stated.
