Ayrton Senna: remember the girlfriends of the pilot who died 30 years ago

30 years ago, on May 1, 1994, the Brazil lost the three-time world champion driver Ayrton Senna during an accident at the Grand Prix of Imola, Italy.

Born in São Paulo, he began his career competing in karts and became one of the most important names in the history of Formula 1.

On and off the track, the Brazilian stood out in the media, both for his memorable achievements during competitions and for the details of his intimate life.

In fact, last Tuesday (30), Netflix released the first images and the teaser for “Senna”, a miniseries that will tell the story of the pilot.

Going beyond Xuxa Meneghel, 61, and Adriane Galisteu, 51, the CNN remember the athlete's other romantic relationships below.

Lílian de Vasconcellos Souza

Senna's first public relationship was with Lílian, whom he married in 1981. The two were friends as children and, later, during their adolescence, they became lovers.

Once the union was official, they went to live in London, England, but the marriage ended after a year.

Adriane Yamin

In 1984, after breaking up with Lílian, the pilot, aged 24 at the time, got involved with Adriane Yamin, just 15.

“How does a 24-year-old boy fall in love with a 15-year-old girl? I was a child. He was my first kiss, I learned to kiss with him and it worked really well. He was very playful and I come from a very playful family. I was always watching to see what he was up to and had fun with him. I'm very loving, he was too. He has this thing about gaining trust by his looks, by the way he is”, she said in an interview with the “À Deriva” podcast.

Although the relationship did not go ahead, Adriane's memories were shared in the book “Minha Garota”, released by her in 2019.

Xuxa Meneghel

One of Ayrton Senna's most talked about relationships was with Xuxa, the eternal Queen of Baixinhos. From 1988 to 1990, he was in a relationship with the presenter.

“The great loss I had in my life started with Ayrton, with Beco [apelido de Senna]. I thought we would meet him again, that we would stay together, that we would try a new relationship, and that never happened”, she said in the production “Xuxa, O Documentário”, on Globoplay.

“I had to deal with that and it was quite difficult. I didn’t yet know what it was like to lose someone very close to me, and so young, with so many plans,” she added.

Carol Ann Alt

Shortly after the end of his relationship with Xuxa, the pilot became briefly involved with the American model Carol Ann Alt, 63. “It was love at first sight,” she told the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

In the interview, she, who at the time was with a hockey player, said she met the Brazilian at a Salvatore Ferragamo fashion show in Milan.

Senna invited her to dinner and, from then on, everything changed in Carol's life. “He was simple, like no one I had met before. That night we went to the restaurant and touched the stars. The chemistry between us was unusual,” she assured.

Adriane Galisteu

Closing the list is Adriane Galisteu, known for being Senna's last love. The two met in 1993, during a party, and stayed together until the athlete's death in 1994.
