Azerbaijani president offers support after Iran helicopter crash

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said his country was ready to provide support after a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi crashed on Sunday in a remote, mountainous province near the border between the two countries.

Iranian state news agency Press TV reported that Raisi and Aliyev inaugurated a dam project on Sunday (19), before the accident in Iran's East Azerbaijan province. Part of the province's northern border is shared with Azerbaijan.

“Today, after saying a friendly goodbye to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, we were deeply concerned by the news of a helicopter carrying Iran's main delegation,” Aliyev said in an X post.

“Our prayers to Almighty Allah are with President Ebrahim Raisi and the delegation accompanying him. As a neighboring country, friend and brother, the Republic of Azerbaijan is ready to provide any necessary assistance,” he added.
