Azul has a 405% increase in medical layoffs in January and reroutes flights

Azul Linhas Aéreas had seen the number of medical layoffs given to its crew increase fivefold in the first week of January.

The increase in the number of days granted in licenses this month was 405% compared to the monthly average of the last 12 months, according to information released by the National Aeronauts Union (SNA) on Friday (7).

According to the organization’s president, Ondino Dutra, the data were provided by Azul itself at a meeting held with union representatives, after an increase in complaints from the crew regarding changes in stopovers, flights and time off in recent times. days.

“When it arrived in January, sick leave increased by 400%, due to the coronavirus and influenza – when not combined. -, especially from the commissioners”, said Dutra, in a video published on the SNA networks. “This, then, was giving rise to all the problems related to the closures of flights and stopovers.”

In a statement, Azul informed that, “for operational reasons, some of its flights for the month of January are being rescheduled” and that “the company registered an increase in the number of medical layoffs among its crew”. All cases, according to Azul, had mild symptoms.

“It is important to emphasize that more than 90% of the company’s operations are operating normally and that the impacted customers are being notified of the changes, re-accommodated on other company flights and receiving all the necessary assistance”, added the company.

Earlier this week, the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) had already informed the Ministry of Health that there was a cancellation of flights in the country due to a diagnosis of Covid-19 or flu in crew members, as was found by the CNN.

In a statement, the agency, which is responsible for regulating airline flights in Brazil, stated that it started to monitor the cases of Covid-19 or Influence in the sector.

“In order to anticipate possible impacts on aviation and assist in the airlines’ action plan, the agency had already contacted representatives of airlines, airports, concessionaires, Auxiliary Air Transport Services Companies (ESATAs) and agencies of sanitary and health control”, said Anac.

The agency also reiterated that passengers whose flight is delayed or canceled have “the right to assistance provided by airlines, as provided for in Resolution 400/2016”.
