B. Korkidis: The monthly compensation of energy costs is necessary and timely

“The monthly compensation of the energy cost is necessary and timely” notes in his statement the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Piraeus Vassilis Korkidis.

Specifically, Mr. Korkidis stated: “We are going through a wartime period of international energy crisis, with electricity prices having soared across Europe, to unprecedented levels. Consistent with its commitments, the government continues to support households and businesses in this difficult situation, announcing a new support “package” in time for September, alongside the creation of the Energy Transition Fund to take financial measures, in favor of households and professionals on a monthly basis. In addition, from September, a permanent hedging mechanism will operate , which will be fed from a new reserve account. Nationally, it is clear that an honorable effort is being made to protect households and businesses against extreme energy costs, neutralizing the threat of shrinking our society’s resilience. At the same time, all those projects related to energy sufficiency in the face of a difficult winter. After all, the truth of the numbers leaves no room for delay, since, for September alone, 1.9 billion euros will be allocated to subsidize electricity bills for businesses and households, absorbing 94% of the increase, with the subsidy reaching 639 euro/MWh. For small and medium enterprises with a power supply of up to 35kVA and for all bakeries, the subsidy is set for September at 604 euros/MWh, absorbing 89% of the increase. This measure concerns 1,250,000 professional services of various businesses such as restaurants, shops, kiosks, convenience stores, hairdressers, offices, bakeries, etc. and is estimated at 401 million euros for September. For all other commercial and industrial supplies with power > 35kVA the subsidy amounts to 342 euros/MWh. Even for the Agricultural Tariff, the subsidy is set at 639 euros/MWh, absorbing 90% of the increase. The economy is “cyclical” and any brave absorption of electricity increases is estimated to help households breathe and businesses stay afloat. Energy costs are entering uncharted waters, with unknown developments, and the Government is right to implement emergency emergency measures in a timely manner.”
