French Finance Minister Bruno Lemerre has said that a new European technology fund of about 1 billion euros will be officially launched tomorrow, Tuesday, and will enable the European technology sector to compete with its American and Asian rivals.
According to Reuters, Lemerre announced the new fund today in a speech at an event on France’s digital policy plans, which holds the rotating presidency of the European Union for the current six months.
Lemmer also stressed the need to make the EU less dependent on foreign technology leaders.
This new European technology fund will combine 10 to 20 funds “with a minimum value of one billion euros to fund technology champions,” the French minister said.
He also reiterated France’s “absolute” commitment to nuclear energy.
“There is no technological sovereignty without energy sovereignty,” he said.
