In the midst of the tragedy that has already left 152 deaths, this Sunday (20) was marked by a reason for hope: the birth of Ana Alice. The baby came into the world today at a support point set up by the city of Petrópolis.
The baby’s mother, Giovana Cerqueira, arrived at the Paroquial Bom Jesus school early in the morning. In pain, the young woman had gone to talk to her mother – who is sheltering there.
At nine months of her second pregnancy, Giovana had contractions and was examined by the medical team working on the spot. The professionals even called the Civil Defense, but there was no time for the ambulance to arrive.
“The baby was born right here. It was the most moving thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” said the school’s principal, Renata Zacharsk. “It was a very emotional moment for everyone here,” Zacharsk added.
“Her mother and I put her on the floor, and I said: ‘press hard’. Soon I saw the baby’s head, and she was born. She was beautiful”, reported nurse Tatiana Jardim Costa, who participated in the delivery.
After the birth, mother and daughter were taken by Samu to the Alcides Carneiro Hospital (HAC), in Corrêas. The two get along fine.
