Parque das Aves reported on Friday night (20) that five toucan chicks were born from the seven eggs that were in an incubator under the care of the park’s technical team.
The eggs were taken by the Federal Police after being found by agents in a passenger’s bra at Foz do Iguaçu International Airport, in Paraná.
She would embark for Asunción, capital of Paraguay.
Eight eggs were found in the woman’s underwear. However, according to Parque das Aves, one of them arrived broken. The other two eggs remain incubated.
The case occurred on Friday (13). According to the Federal Police, the passenger is of Argentine nationality and claimed that the eggs were for her food. Initially, the woman said the eggs were from a “quail type”. After being interviewed, she was released to continue her journey.
“The PF emphasizes that transporting eggs without due authorization constitutes the crime of trafficking in wild animals, carrying the same penalties as those who kill, persecute, hunt, collect, use and sell specimens of fauna. Any information about the removal of animals from their natural habitat for sale can be reported on our hotline, with the guarantee of confidentiality and anonymity”, warns a statement from the Federal Police.
