Baby victim of shooting in RJ is discharged; Three-year-old sister remains hospitalized

The one-year-old baby, shot in an exchange of gunfire this Monday (8), in Seropédica, Baixada Fluminense, was discharged from hospital after being hit in the knee.

According to the Municipal Health Department of Duque de Caxias, the child was admitted to the Adão Pereira Nunes Hospital, where he underwent tests that did not reveal any fractures. After care, the child returned home.

The 3-year-old sister was shot twice, with one bullet lodged in her cervical spine. According to the hospital, the girl is being monitored by neurosurgery and interdisciplinary teams and her health status is considered normal.

The mother of the two children, a 34-year-old woman, was shot in the leg and has already been discharged.

Dead university student

During the exchange of gunfire, in the city center, university student Bernardo Paraíso, aged 24, ended up dead. He was shot in front of a supermarket.

By note, the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) declared an official mourning period of three days and suspended classes this Tuesday (09/04), due to the death of the biology student.

In the statement, UFRRJ also lamented the escalation of violence in the state and called for urgent measures to contain the situation.

Confrontation between criminals brings panic to residents

On the afternoon of this Monday (08/04), heavily armed bandits clashed in the center of Seropédica, in Baixada Fluminense.

According to the Military Police, agents from the Queimados Battalion (24th BPM) were called to investigate the shooting. Arriving at the scene, they found the university student dead.

According to the PM, another man who was injured was arrested. And with him, the police seized a rifle and a gun. Additionally, a grenade was found near the student's body.
