Baby’s body is found in a women’s bathroom trash can in Canoas (RS)

A baby was found dead in a dumpster, this Monday (24), in Canoas, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre. The one-day-old child was wrapped in a blanket and was found by an employee of a commercial building who called the police.

The baby’s mother, aged 33, was arrested by the civil police and is being investigated for qualified homicide and concealment of a corpse. Informally, she confessed that she killed the newborn. Images from the security circuit of a building show that the woman arrives with a bag, enters the bathroom, changes her clothes and leaves for work.

The delegate investigating the case, Arthur Reguse, believes that at this point she abandoned the body. “The description of the images matches the employee of a coffee shop in this building. She entered with a black volume bag and left without the volume in the bag. She walked for several kilometers with that bag,” Reguse said.

The investigation indicates that the woman gave birth last Sunday night (23). After that, she breastfed and then killed the child.

“The child was born alive and had his mouth and nose covered, sealed with transparent adhesive tape. She died of asphyxiation.”

Guided by the lawyer, the woman remained silent during the testimony and did not say what the motivation for the crime was. However, she informally told homicide officers that she did not want the child. The woman has two other children under 12 years of age.

During the arrest, the woman was at work, in the same building where the fetus was found. “Found at work, she seemed calm and did not show any mental confusion,” said the delegate.

Searches were carried out at the suspect’s house and, according to the police chief, blood-stained clothes were found and the substance was also identified by forensics using luminol.
