Back to the 90s: 5 reasons to watch the “That ’70s Show” spin-off

Hello Wisconsin! “That ’90s Show”, from Netflix, debuted last Thursday (19) and has already caused a stir among fans of American sitcons. This is because production is a spin off (derived series) from “That ’70s Show” which was very successful in the late 1990s and early 2000s and propelled great artists such as Topher Grace, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis.

This time, the story takes place in 1995, when Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), daughter of Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon), leaves Chicago and goes to spend her summer vacation in the small Point Place with her grandparents. –the ever-careful Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) and the strict, vigilante Red (Kurtwood Smith).

There, she meets a new generation of teenagers from the city and discovers that this phase of life can be much more fun than she was used to.

1. NOSTALGIA FOR THE 1990s

What reminds you most of the 1990s? Tube TV, fax, “brick” cell phone, analog camera… Anyone who lived through that time –or heard about it (as is the case of the author of this text)– knows how significant this period was in the lives of many people. “That ’90s Show” does not hesitate to bring references from that era, whether in cars, costumes, costumes and even product packaging.

2. SPECIAL PARTICIPATIONS

Although “That ’90s Show” focuses more on coexistence among young people from the new generation, main characters from “That ’70s Show” are also present in the spin-off. The coolest thing is that some are even parents of Leia’s friends. This is the case of Jay (Mace Coronel), son of Michael Kelso (Ashton Kutcher) and Jackie (Mila Kunis).

The funny Fez, Bob Pinciotti –now Leia’s grandfather– and even the hippie Leo also give the “air of grace” in the continuation.

3. KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CHARACTERS

Everyone is left with that desire to know what happened to one or another character when their favorite series comes to an end. In “That ’90s Show”, the viewer can see what happened to each of the original group and discover that some things don’t change with time. An example of this is the Foreman basement, which is “full” again, making Grandma Kitty happy, but Grandpa Red not so much.

4. KILLING THE ORIGINAL SERIES’ SALUTE

Despite all the success it had when it was shown, between 1998 and 2006, the series “That ’70s Show” is not available on any of the main streaming platforms in Brazil, according to the Just Watch website. With “That ’90s Show”, fans can, finally, kill the nostalgia of the fictional Point Place gang.

5. YOU CAN WATCH IT WITHOUT SEEING “THAT ’70s SHOW”

If you’ve never seen “That ’70s Show”, rest assured that you can have fun with the spin-off without having followed the eight seasons of the original series. “That ’90s Show” brings several references to the previous production – but, as we said, it focuses on other characters, who have their own plots and conflicts.

If you’re already a fan of the story, you’ll enjoy some references and “inside jokes”. But if you haven’t already, you can enjoy the light and charismatic plot of the series, which has about 20 minutes per episode.
