The VKontakte team announced the launch of a new useful function for the web version of the VK Calls service – replacing the background during video calls using augmented reality technologies.
As the developers note, the AR-technology of background replacement has been improved especially for the web version – a low-level implementation of the segmentation model finds a person in the frame and builds his precise and smooth contour. The innovation is that all calculations are performed in a parallel thread so that the use of the virtual background does not affect the speed of the browser tabs.
Especially for the launch of the function, Little Big, Cream Soda, Klava Koka, Niletto and other celebrities presented their unique virtual backgrounds – the backgrounds are available in the VKontakte mobile application, the web version of the social network and in the separate VK Calls desktop application. Also, users can upload their personal backgrounds, which will be synchronized across all devices.
