Bahia: Body of the girl who fell into a manhole was found 2 km from the accident site

The body of 12-year-old Amanda Max Teles da Silva was found approximately 2 kilometers from the place where she fell, in Dias D’Ávila, metropolitan region of Salvador. The corpse was located this Friday (29), after more than 40 hours of searching.

The girl had disappeared on Wednesday (27), after falling into a manhole during the heavy rains that hit Bahia. The Fire Department, with the support of drones, helicopters, special cameras to access underground galleries, probes and sniffer dogs, located the body at the exit of a pipe in the region.

According to the Bahia Fire Department, volunteers joined the search teams, carrying out sweeps in flooded and underground areas. Mapping the region’s rainwater runoff network was crucial to guide the location of the body.

The accident occurred around 12:20 pm on Wednesday, on Avenida Lauro de Freitas, in the Center of Dias D’Ávila. Amanda, who was returning from school, tripped and fell into the manhole while trying to cross the street in the heavy rain. Security cameras recorded the moment of the incident.

Search teams intensified efforts, focusing on storm sewers and other critical areas of the drainage network. Dias D’Ávila City Hall reported that the sweeps were carried out continuously, while the Fire Department also monitored more distant locations, where the water could have carried the girl.
