Bahia: government and TRE define operation against electoral crimes

The Public Security Secretariat and the Regional Electoral Court (TRE) of Bahia defined the final details for carrying out Operation Elections 2024 in the state. The planning involves escorting the ballot boxes, reinforcing actions in voting areas, and combating electoral crimes, among other measures.

The Secretary of Public Security, Marcelo Werner, met with the president of the TRE of Bahia, judge Abelardo Paulo da Matta Neto, to define the actions.

According to the authorities, 34,000 police officers and firefighters will be employed in the action to guarantee citizenship, with support from 2,000 vehicles, as well as helicopters and drones. More than 3,500 video surveillance cameras and facial recognition systems will also be used by the teams.

Among the new features for this year, the Hotline started receiving, since October 1st, information on electoral crimes throughout the state. The population can pass on information, in complete confidentiality, via telephone 181, or via the website Hotline.

Crimes such as exit polls, illegal transportation or driving of voters, coercion, spillage of cards, withholding of voter registration cards, vote buying, among other illicit practices, can be reported through the tool.

For the first time, in an electoral election, the Integrated Public Security Command and Control and Intelligence Center will be used. The unit will have around 31 bodies working in an integrated manner, including experts, civil, military, federal police, federal highway, criminal and municipal guards.
