Bahia Police locate 35 faction leaders in the first quarter of 2024

In the first months of this year, 35 leaders of factions active in Bahia were located by the state security forces. The partial number is close to last year's total, when 33 leaders were found.

The data was presented this Tuesday (23) by the Secretary of Public Security Marcelo Werner, in Salvador.

During the same period, 19 rifles were also seized, as well as other weapons, magazines and vests found with criminals.

Werner highlighted during the presentation the police intensification in the neighborhoods of Periperi, Vila Verde and Lobato, which have been suffering constant shootings due to territorial disputes between rival groups.

“It is also important to highlight the leaders found. Among those located, ten were part of the SSP Crime Deck and five of these were located in other states, such as Rio de Janeiro, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Sergipe and Espírito Santo”, added Werner.

The most recent case took place this Monday (22), with the arrest of Uelquer Silva de Araújo, “Pig”.

Out of fear, some residents even reported moving out of peripheral neighborhoods of the Bahian capital. Also during the press conference, the general commander of the Military Police, Colonel Paulo Coutinho, emphasized that the State will not allow the population to be held hostage by criminals. “We will continue to act firmly and alongside the communities”, added the official.
