Bahia will receive around 40 thousand new doses of vaccine against Covid-19

This Thursday (24), Bahia will receive 42 thousand doses of XBB, the most recent vaccine against Covid-19, produced by Moderna. The new vaccine is more effective in combating the XBB.1.5 variant, which has been circulating in the state since last year, according to the State Department of Health (Sesab).

The expectation is that the state will receive 42 thousand doses that will be distributed to the state’s 417 municipalities according to population criteria.

The new shipment of the vaccine arrives after several health centers announced zero stocks of vaccine against Covid-19 for adults and children in Bahia. According to Sesab, the objective is to meet the demand generated by the shortages that occurred at the beginning of October.

This phase of vaccination covers children aged 6 months to under 5 years old, as part of routine vaccination, and eligible adults. Priority will be given to people aged 60 or over, pregnant women, women who have recently given birth, immunocompromised people, indigenous people, riverside dwellers, quilombolas, health workers, people with permanent disabilities, among other priority groups.

Since June 2024, 40,849 doses of the XBB vaccine have been administered in Bahia, according to data provided by the Ministry of Health. This year, Bahia has already recorded 20,738 cases and 122 deaths from Covid-19.
