Journalist Wanda Chase, fully present in Bahian communication and her militancy for racial equality, died in Salvador, Bahia. The Chase family confirmed the journalist’s death on the morning of Thursday (3).
According to family information, Wanda made an emergency surgical intervention in the heart at the Teresa de Lisieux Hospital in Salvador, after being diagnosed with amending aortic aneurysm.
According to the Bahian Press Association, the journalist’s farewell ceremony will take place this Thursday, at Campo Santo Cemetery, at a time to be released by the family later.
The journalist
Wanda Chase was a native of Amazonas and made a career in major communication vehicles such as the newspaper A Criticism, Rede Manchete, TV Cabo Branco, Rede Globo Nordeste and TV Bahia, where he spent 27 years of his career.
The journalist stood out as a reporter, editor, columnist and presenter, as well as actively defending the inclusion of African descent communities in the media.
After his retirement, Wanda Chase was engaged in projects such as the writing of his “Opraí Wanda Chase” column on the Ibahia portal, in the “backstage with Wanda Chase” podcast and a book that was in production about Axé Music.
Wanda was an influential figure in promoting black representativeness in the media, being a reference for professionals.

Strong presence on screens and outside of them helped tell the story of Bahia with truth and courage. Even without even receiving the title of Bahian citizen, our land had welcomed Wanda a long time ago.
