Bakers unite to bring food to needy people in pandemic

The pandemic is making us live very difficult times, but it also brings out the best in people, because every day more are willing to help those most in need and recognize those who are on the front line of battle against of this terrible disease.

An example of these people is Community Loaves, a group of citizens of Seattle, United States who since the beginning of the pandemic came together to help hundreds of people who lost their jobs.

Community Loaves developed a program in collaboration with bakers across the city to produce homemade bread and then give it away to the homeless and those left without a job during the Covid-19 health contingency.

Bakers enjoy baking every day

Since the confinement began, the bakers bake some pieces every day and then go out to distribute them. The program coordinator, Katherine Kehrli, explained during the Today television program how this idea started.

When I think about my childhood, my grandmother used to make the best homemade bread. That reminds me of this. You can see smiles through the masks. You still can. You can see the eyes go up. With 600 thousand loaves of bread, there are 600 thousand smiles.

More and more people are being reached in Seattle
