President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s meetings with US presidents Joe Biden and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky had a “positive outcome.”
This is the assessment of FGV international relations professor Pedro Brites.
A CNN Radio he stated that the entire “package”, from the Brazilian president’s speech at the UN General Assembly to the bilateral meetings, was a “hit combo.”
This is because, Brites explains, Brazil “wants to exercise a relevant position in international relations, positioning itself as a point between the global north and south.”
For the professor, the fact that Lula and Zelensky met for the first time meant a “win-win game.”
“Both for Brazil to consolidate itself as a leader in the global south, and for Zelensky to achieve advances and support in this region,” he said.
According to the expert, Ukraine is seeking political support because it is experiencing a “sensitive moment” in the context of the war.

“As time passes, there are economic impacts for the countries that support the Ukrainians and the discussion for a peace agreement begins to gain strength,” he stated.
This way, the Ukrainians would have to go to the negotiating table in an unfavorable situation compared to the Russians.
“On the battlefield, it does not seem that, in the short term, there will be a peaceful resolution that pleases both parties”, he considered.
