Last Sunday’s elections (2) defined the candidates who will govern 14 states and the Federal District for the next four years. The list includes 12 governors who have been re-elected for a new term. In another 12 state disputes, the decision was left for October 30, when Brazilians will return to the polls for the second round of the electoral race.
The PT, of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, elected three governors in the Northeast. The PL, led by President Jair Bolsonaro, won the re-election of Cláudio Castro in Rio de Janeiro and supported the victories of Ratinho Júnior (PSD), in Paraná, and Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), in the Federal District. São Paulo and Bahia, two of the largest electoral colleges in the country, will only have a definition in the second round.
