Ban France Campaign Gains Momentum

The Ban France campaign is gaining momentum after Macron took up an anti-Islam stance.

Following the French President’s comments on Islam, protests against the growing Islamophobia in France have been held in various Muslim countries. Turkey’s president Tayyip Erdogan had called for a boycott of French products in a televised address on Monday.

Muslim Countries are Boycotting French Products

Some stores in Qatar, Morocco, Sudan, Algeria and other countries have taken products from France off of shelves in super markets. Super stores in Jordan have also hung up signs indicating that they are not dealing with products made in the French state.

GCC, the Gulf Cooperation Council, has condemned Macron’s remarks and has stated that his actions and words will create divisions between people of different faiths in his country too. France is home to approximately six million Muslims.

Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Imran Khan has also expressed his concerns regarding the blatant and systematic Islamophobia that Macron is endorsing. Rallies against the French head of state and his propagation of spread of hate and the disrespect of the Prophet were also carried out in the South Asian country.

Muslims in Palestine, Lebanon and Yemen are also enraged at the comments of Macron. They are participating in the ban France campaign and are demanding an apology from the president for his hurtful comments.

Social Media Against Hate

Campaign against the spread of hatred is gaining momentum on different social media platforms. The hashtag Boycott French Products has been trending on social networking websites.

Frames containing banners in support of Islam and the Prophet have been made available on Facebook. People are tweeting about the need for respecting everyone, irrespective of their faith.

The French Reaction

The Foreign Ministry of France has taken the stance that the on going boycott is plain and simple Turkish propaganda against France. It is no secret that over the past years, the two states have taken different sides in a lot of issues of international importance.

French authorities say the will be sending their diplomats to countries protesting against France to ensure the safety of French citizens residing there.
