The Belo Horizonte City Council approved, this Tuesday (5), in the first round, a bill that prohibits the use of neutral language in the curriculum, in teaching materials of public or private educational institutions and in public tenders. public.
The measure now goes to the committees where the amendments presented to the text will be analyzed. Subsequently, it will return to the plenary for consideration in the second round.
PL 54/2021, authored by councilor Nikolas Ferreira (PL), proposes administrative sanctions for educational institutions and professionals who violate the use of the Portuguese language considered standard.
It is still determined that the responsible secretariats undertake all the necessary means to value the Portuguese language considered cultured.
According to the text, initiatives to defend students in the application of any learning that deviates from the legal norms and guidelines for teaching should be encouraged.
For councilor Duda Salabert (PDT), contrary to the project, the deaf will be greatly harmed with the approval of the text. “We have to remember that Libras has neutral language as its pronominal structure”, she explains.
According to Flávia Borja (Avante), the project preserves children. “You [vereadores que se opuseram ao texto] are not concerned with education. Neutral language is a tool of gender ideology. We need to defend our children in schools”.
