The New Development Bank (NDB) announced this Friday (10) the departure of current president Marcos Troyjo, in office since July 2020.
The movement takes place amidst speculation that former president Dilma Rousseff (PT) may be nominated by the federal government to occupy the presidency of the institution, nicknamed “Bank of the Brics” in reference to the economic grouping composed of Brazil, Russia, India , China and South Africa.
“The NDB has started a leadership transition process, which takes place in a mutually agreed manner and in accordance with the Bank’s governance and procedures,” the body said in an official statement.
Marcos Troyjo will leave office by March 24, 2023, at which time the Board of Governors of the NBD must start a new election process.
According to the statement, the new president will be appointed by Brazil, “to fulfill the rotating mandate that expires on July 6, 2025”.
After the election, the new president takes office.
