Japanese gaming giants Bandai Namco, SEGA, and Square Enix are looking to implement blockchain and NFTs in future gaming franchises, according to a top manager at blockchain project Oasys.
During the Tokyo Games Show 2022, Oasys authorized director Ryo Matsubara revealed that Bandai Namco, SEGA and Square Enix are partners in the project. According to him, the gaming giants have long-term plans to create Play-to-Earn games based on the blockchain.
“We have a common vision for the use of blockchain in games, at least at the highest level. And they don’t want to change that, they really understand the future of blockchain adoption. They do not think about momentary profit, but want to participate in a new stage in the development of the gaming industry,” Matsubara emphasized.
At the same time, game companies do not plan to release already existing and well-known game franchises on the blockchain. They will release completely new projects with a “new game model”, and the use of blockchain in more traditional games may be later:
“When the model is worked out, becomes reliable and successful, then famous franchises will be added.”
The top manager of Oasys also emphasized that at the moment one of the main problems of games on the blockchain is the dependence on the exchange rate of the in-game token. Users come specifically for earnings, not for gameplay, and often speculate with such tokens.
It is interesting that the management of a large Western publisher Ubisoft has noticeably cooled down to the use of blockchain and NFT in their projects.
