The São Paulo Military Police were called in the early hours of this Monday (8) to respond to an incident in which suspects had used explosives to invade a Banco do Brasil branch in the city of São Pedro, in the interior of São Paulo.
The criminal action began at around 3:15 am. At the scene, police officers observed the presence of smoke and suspicious movements. The PM reported that the criminals also closed a street to restrict access to the bank branch.
In a statement, the PM noted that monitoring teams at the bank reported the presence of around six individuals armed with rifles inside the establishment's safe. Agents who were close to the scene say they heard explosions and gunshots fired by the criminals, who were aiming to scare away the police.
In the neighborhoods and cities close to the location, suspicious actions and gunshots were also recorded, which may be related to the escape of individuals. On Horácio Ramos Street, for example, located 700 meters from the bank branch, there was a confrontation between criminals and police, but no agents were injured.
Nearby, several piercing objects, known as “miguelitos”, were found thrown onto the asphalt with the aim of puncturing vehicle tires. In addition, the criminals fired firearms at the vehicles of people who were traveling near the agency at the time of the incident.
This morning, agents from the Special Tactical Actions Group (GATE) worked to deactivate the various explosive devices left by the assailants in São Pedro. Look:
According to the agents, in addition to GATE, other battalions from nearby cities were called to assist in the incident, as well as the Águia Helicopter.
Wanted by CNN Banco do Brasil declared, in a note, that it collaborates with police investigations and works to regularize service.
“It is worth highlighting that, alternatively, customers and users of affected branches can count on service via the BB app, at nearby branches or at bank correspondents”, says the statement.
