Bank of Spain expects the economy to expand 2.2% in the second quarter

The Bank of Spain said on Monday that it expects the Spanish economy to grow 2.2% in the second quarter in its central scenario, according to Reuters. Estimates 2021 growth at 6.2% in the central scenario, against 6% in March; the expected range is 4.6% to 6.8%. By 2022 they see a growth of 5.8% and 1.8% by 2023.

With respect to inflation, the Bank of Spain foresees that the harmonized index with the European Union will be 1.9% this year (previous forecast 1.4%), 1.2% in 2022 and 1.2% in 2023.

The unemployment rate it would be 15.6% this year according to the central bank, better than the 17% expectation in March.

Regarding public debt, the Bank of Spain estimates that it will be 120% with respect to GDP, 117% in 2022 and 118% in 2023. The budget deficit for 2021 would be between 7.8% and 8.9%.
