Banksy sells one of his works to British hospitals

The hero of this world and of this moment is a nurse. Banksy he said it, or rather he drew it, in May last year in his work homage to doctors and health workers, new superheroes at the time of the coronavirus. This work represents a child playing with a puppet representing a nurse with a cape and mask, not Batman and Spiderman, which he leaves in a basket.

The British artist wants to raise over three million pounds for the British healthcare system.

It does so by auctioning off this very work called Game Changer, which appeared in Southampton General Hospital during the first wave of the pandemic. The image is one meter by one meter. It was in an atrium near the hospital emergency room and will be on display at the auction house in London until March 15th. The auction, already hypothesized at the time of creation, is scheduled for Tuesday 23 March.

Katharine Arnold of Christie’s talked about Game Changer cas a “universal tribute to all those who fight all over the world on the front line against this crisis”. It is a work of hope and thanksgiving. It was already in the dedication of the most famous street artist in the world: «Thank you for everything you are doing. I hope this brings some light, even if it’s only in black and white ».

On Instagram alone, the image has had almost three million likes and it is not the only one that Banksy has dedicated to the pandemic and to those who have faced it. He locked his mice in the bathroom, to represent his quarantine with smart working unbearable to his wife, and sent them to the London Underground. He also made an elderly woman sneeze, who comes to spit dentures in her Bristol.
