At least three people were killed and 19 others were seriously injured on Holy Tuesday (19/4) when a bomb exploded in bar to the northeast Nigeriaaccording to police.
The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a packed bar near a farm market in the village of Juare in Taraba State.
“Three people were killed and 19 others were seriously injured in the blast,” Taraba police spokesman Osman Abdullahi told AFP.
The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a police recruiting center at Kisak, killing at least 12 people.
The state of Taraba, like much of the northeastern and central parts of the country, has been the scene of gang attacks over the past decade, which authorities generally call “bandits” or “gangsters” – villages, looting, kidnapping and killing residents.
Although residents believe that the attack was committed by the so-called bandits, Mr. Abdullahi pointed out that it is still too early to say who was behind the action.
The use of explosives by gangs is rare;
The gangs act with the sole motive of profit, without their actions having any ideological connotation. However, the infiltration of jihadists into their ranks is a cause for concern.
In late March, gunmen launched an attack on a train, which derailed with explosives. At least eight people were killed in the attack and a large number of passengers were abducted by the perpetrators, who specifically targeted the VIP wagon of the train.
At first, jihadists and bandits collaborated in the attack.
The gangs, which have been described as “terrorist” organizations by Nigerian authorities earlier this year, are based in camps in vast forests covering areas of Zamfara, Katsina, Kantuna and Niger.
