O Double Chicken Please in New York, was elected the best bar in north america in 2023 . The revelation was made last week at the ceremony of the second edition of the North America’s 50 Best Bars arm of the renowned 50 Best Bars, which chooses the best bars in the world.
North America’s 50 Best Bar annually ranks the top 50 bars in the United States, Canada, Mexico and parts of the Caribbean.
This year, 28 US bars are in the top 50. Mexico is next with 14; right behind comes Canada with seven and only one is from the Caribbean, more specifically from Puerto Rico.

After years of running on four wheels in a pop-up Kombi, bartenders GN Chan and Faye Chen parked the vehicle and opened Double Chicken Please in November 2020 on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
50 Best Bars comments that the cocktails served at the house are like “liquid works of art”. The bar bets on the concept of “design hacking”, in which the drinks deconstruct, redefine and reconstruct dishes in liquid form, such as French toast, pizza, key lime pie, beetroot salad, among others.
The result, according to 50 Best, causes “surprising, delicious and unexpected sensory sensations”.
The house has two distinct environments and the cocktail menu differs in each space. While the Front Room has a casual, industrial feel and also serves chicken sandwiches, the Back Room, in the back, has modern decor and lighting with a rotating list of innovative and classic craft cocktails.

Second on the list is the Speakeasy handshake a speakeasy-style bar in Mexico City, which consequently also ranks as the best bar in Mexico in the current ranking.
Who appears in third place is the Katana Kitten , Japanese-American bar in Greenwich Village, New York. Then another choice from Mexico City: the Licoreria Limantour which is already considered an institution in the Mexican capital.
Already who appears in fifth place is the Jewel of the South described as a modern tavern in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the United States.

In addition to the bars, other awards were handed out during the ceremony, which took place in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Julio Cabrera from Miami’s Café La Trova, was honored with the Icon of the Year award, in which the 260 voting Academy members nominate the person who has done the most to advance the bar industry.
Christine Wiseman from Bar Lab Hospitality in New York, Miami, Chicago and Los Angeles, was celebrated as bartender of the year by fellow voters.
The next 50 Best Bars ceremony, this time listing the best bars around the world, takes place on October 17 in Singapore.
