Chadwick Boseman and the former president Barack Obama are among those nominated for the first time in the 74th Emmy Awards.
The nominees were announced Tuesday morning and the award honors the best in television in 2022. “Succession” and “Ted Lasso” predictably lead the nominations, but there were also plenty of newcomers among them.
Boseman, who died in 2020, was posthumously nominated for his performance as T’Challa (aka Black Panther) in the Disney+ animated series “What If?”. Norm Macdonald and Jessica Walter also received posthumous nominations, but both had previously been nominated, with Walter winning a statue in 1975.
Obama was nominated for Outstanding Narrator for the Netflix documentary series “Our Great National Parks”.
The actors Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield and Amanda Seyfried earned their first Emmy nominations for their roles in the prestigious series “Scenes from a Wedding,” “In the Name of Heaven” and “The Dropout,” respectively.
Melanie Lynskey also got his first Emmy nomination for his prickly performance in Showtime’s debut drama “Yellow Jacket.”
TV veterans Adam Scott and Sheryl Lee Ralph were finally recognized by the Television Academy this year, earning recognition for their performances in the Apple TV+ drama “Severance” and the ABC hit “Abbott Elementary,” respectively.
Ralph’s co-star Janelle James was also nominated for her performance in the rookie comedy, as was the show’s creator and lead actress, Quinta Brunson.
Stand-up comedian Jerrod Carmichael was also part of this year’s list, up for his performance show on “Saturday Night Live” and his confessional special, “Rothaniel.”
And Jennifer Coolidge was honored for her performance in the HBO series “The White Lotus”.
