Barbara Bonansea: “I’ve never felt different”

Comes free, and exclusively on Rakuten TV, from December 2nd Champions, the docuseries that tells nineteen women. Three generations of footballers from over eight nationalities representing six countries. Each of them has a unique history and they have all faced different personal, social and cultural challenges, but they are all united by the same passion.

For Italy there is also Barbara Bonansea, midfielder of Juventus and the Italian national team, winner of six Scudetti, three Italian Cups and five Italian Super Cups. In 2020 the FIFPro included her in the formation of the best players of the year, thus becoming the first Italian to be awarded the prestigious award.

Graduated in economics and commerce, born in Pinerolo and in football in the youth sector of Turin, we interviewed the promise, now confirmed, of our Italian football. The docuseries provides a personal picture of Bonansea, not just of her life as a professional. A picture that he also told us during the interview, also analyzing the difficulties that women, not only in football, have to face every day.

Champions it also tells about the life beyond football and the support of his parents, and of a special grandmother. How important was it to have a family that supported him in his choices?
«I believe that behind the great sportsmen there is always a family because it is difficult to get there alone. And for me it was like that, in the sense that in the end it all started as a game, because for me playing football was a game and it was also for my family. Nobody thought I could get here, and so it all started very lightly. When I started playing in Serie A, my luck was that my dad was able with his job to take me to training, because I was training away from home anyway, and he did an hour on the road, he waited for training and then we returned. together at home. If this isn’t luck, I don’t really know what to call it. When I moved to Brescia they would come to all the games anyway, at home and away. I have never felt alone, and this was really the beautiful thing because in any case in the most difficult moments, if you know that there is a family, everything becomes easier. With my parents there is also my grandmother, who now, for example, has recently come to the stadium, and is 85 years old. For me it’s wonderful to see her there, even if she always wants me to score for her, and unfortunately it doesn’t happen in all matches ».
