The main Brexit negotiator of the European Union, Michel Barnier, said on Monday, via Twitter, that they are redoubling their efforts to reach an agreement on the future relationship between the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom.

Barnier indicated that among the things that remain to be resolved are respect for the autonomy of the EU and the sovereignty of the United Kingdom, “with effective governance and enforcement mechanisms between international partners.” He explained that they are necessary solid guarantees for trade and free and fair competition, based on shared high standards, that evolve consistently over time. On fishing, indicated that it is necessary to achieve “stable and reciprocal access to markets and fishing opportunities in the interests of both parties.”
