Baronovsky: Falling unemployment comes with underutilization of jobs

In this Wednesday’s Freedom of Opinion (29), Ricardo Baronovsky analyzed the drop in the country’s unemployment rate, to 12.1%.

Baronovsky says that “numerically, it’s good news… But, as an acquaintance of mine said, statistics represent the art of cheating with numbers.”

“We cannot just look at the numbers. I see a concern here since 2017, which brings the institute of the discouraged, the informal, the underutilization of employment”, he explains.

The specialist still shows some data that reflect this scenario. “Although we are moving towards the end of the pandemic, the data is worrying: one in three companies has closed its doors permanently, and six in ten of the remaining companies are in debt, with profits that do not match expenses.”

“So where are these employees located? What we had was an increase in pejotization, the informal, the discouraged.”

Freedom of Opinion had the participation of Fernando Molica and Ricardo Baronovsky. The picture airs daily on CNN.
