The price of the basic food basket increased in all Brazilian capitals in March, according to the National Survey of the Basic Food Basket, conducted monthly by the Inter-union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese).
The institution recorded the highest increases in Rio de Janeiro (7.65%), Curitiba (7.46%) and São Paulo (6.36%).
Among the 17 capitals monitored by Dieese, the most expensive food basket was observed in São Paulo, at R$ 761.19.
This value represents 67.90% of the minimum wage, of R$ 1,212.0, and indicates that it takes 138 hours and 10 minutes of work for a worker who receives the legal minimum to buy the set of items.
Based on São Paulo figures, the institution calculates that the minimum wage needed to support a family of four would be R$6,394.76, which is 5.28 times higher than the current minimum.
In the same month of 2021, the minimum wage calculated by Dieese was 5,315.74, 4.83 times the minimum in force at the time (R$ 1,100).
In addition to São Paulo, Rio and Curitiba, there was an increase in the prices of the basic food basket in March Florianópolis (5.36%), Porto Alegre and Campo Grande (both 5.51%), Brasília (5.02%), Belo Horizonte (4.28%), Fortaleza (4.17%), Goiânia (3.49%), João Pessoa (3.37%), Vitória (3.28%), Natal (3.25%), Recife ( 2.25%), Belém (1.29%), Aracaju (1.58%) and Salvador (1.46%).
Items
The Dieese survey found an increase in beans, soy oil and French bread in all the capitals surveyed in March.
Soybean oil prices fluctuated between 2.81% in Belém and 15.89% in Salvador. Meanwhile, the rise in French bread reached 6.63% in Aracaju and 6.36% in Goiânia, according to the institution.
“The price of a kilo of French bread increased in all cities, as a result of the reduction in the supply of wheat in the foreign market, since Russia and Ukraine are among the world’s largest producers of the grain”, says the text of Dieese.
Regarding soy oil, the institution highlights that the oil price increases put pressure on the item, as it makes the production of biofuels advantageous.
