The holding of early parliamentary elections in June, at the same time as the European elections, requested Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Zenderconsidering that the governing coalition is no longer suitable for governing the country, following the fiscal crisis caused by “hole” of 60 billion which arose from the decision of the Constitutional Court on the unconstitutionality of the use by the Climate Fund of funds intended to deal with the consequences of the pandemic.
“The government should put the question of a vote of confidence, not to Parliament, but to the German people,” said Mr Zender and expressed the belief that neither the chancellor Olaf Solz neither the Social Democratic Party (SPD) is able to solve Germany’s problems.
Referring to possible future government schemes, the Bavarian prime minister ruled out Christian Union (CDU/CSU) cooperation with the Greens. “This model is only suitable for easy times, not for times with big problems,” he explained, while adding that even the Liberals (FDP) are no longer a long-term stable government partner, as reported by APE-MPE.
Marcus Zender also flatly ruled out repealing or reforming the “debt brake”. The opposition is always ready to help her Germany, he noted, but clarified that “the help is not about removing the debt brake or weakening it.” “We reject this. The leaders of the CDU and the CSU agree on this. It would be the wrong way to do it now,” he added and called on Chancellor Soltz to make it clear that he does not plan to do so.
