BAYC: Hackers can attack NFT communities through hacked accounts

The security service of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) recorded an increase in cyber threats and warned the NFT collector community about an impending mass attack via social networks.

BAYC Yuga Labs announced on Twitter that a “coordinated attack” may soon occur targeting several non-fungible token (NFT) communities:

“Our security team is tracking down a group of hackers targeting the NFT community. We believe they may soon launch a coordinated attack against multiple communities through compromised social media accounts. Please be vigilant and stay safe,” the message reads.

This is not the first time the company has warned the community about a possible hacker attack via social media. In June, Yuga Labs co-founder Gordon Goner posted a warning about a possible attack on Twitter social media accounts. Shortly thereafter, Twitter officials began monitoring account activity and tightened security.

Earlier this month, two official Discord groups associated with BAYC and OtherSide were compromised, allowing the scammers to share various phishing links with official BAYC groups, Mutant Ape Yacht Club and OtherSide.

Yuga Labs’ new warning comes just days after attackers hacked the popular NFT platform Premint, stealing around 314 NFTs and $375,000 in Ether.
