Fernando Fernandes 43, conquered the country by participating in the second edition of Big Brother Brasil, BBB 2. In the third episode of “BBB: The Documentary – More than a peek “, shown this Thursday (09), the athlete reported the change in treatment by other people after the serious car accident in 2009 that left him paraplegic.
At the time he was selected to be one of the participants in the reality show, he was a model. “I was 20 years old, I was a kid, handsome, a model, I didn’t want to know anything. The conversation at the time was different, I just wanted to see beautiful people”, he explained his choice. However, his relationship with the patterns changed when he lost movement below the waist.
At the same time, he connected with another part of himself after the accident. “I thought ‘what do they want from me? It’s just a body’. I lived an incessant search for happiness and I lost myself, but sitting down I found myself. I am no longer part of the aesthetic standard imposed by society. It took a load off my shoulders. That aesthetic pressure disappeared from me”, he said.
“That was when I understood that I needed a voice and I went in search of my space”, added the former BBB, who decided to challenge himself in sport and became a Paralympic athlete. Fernando became four-time World Champion, three-time Pan American Champion, four-time South American Champion and four-time Brazilian Paracanoe Champion.
“People look at me with pity and say it was sad that I lost the use of my legs. I answer ‘why, do you think your life is cooler than mine?’”, countered the presenter.
Directed by Bruno Della Latta, the documentary shown throughout this week investigates the fame of the program that became a favorite among Brazilians. In four episodes, former brothers and sisters remember their participation and talk about the impact of the reality show on their lives.
THE BBB 25 premieres on January 13th and will be presented by Tadeu Schmidt . The participants, who were selected in pairs, are already being announced on Big Day, including the influencer Victoria Strada and friend Mateus Pires, the fitness muse Gracyanne Barbosa and sister Giovanna, the actor Diogo Almeida and mother Vilma and the gymnasts Diego and Daniele Hypolito .
