While Ukraine accuses Russia of trying to “direct” a crisis in the breakaway eastern Donbass region, the BBC reports that it has evidence to disprove the claims of pro-Russian separatists that a Ukrainian attack is imminent.
In particular, the leadership of pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine has released videos detailing the evacuation of residents from the area.
In one of the videos, their leader Leonid Pasechnik claims that, due to the Ukrainian bombing, the citizens were ordered to evacuate, stating: “Today, Friday, February 18 …”.
Following reports on social media, the BBC checked the meta-data of the posted videos and found that they showed that the videos were recorded on Wednesday 16 February – two days before the recent resurgence of hostilities.
As the BBC notes, “this suggests that the escalation was pre-planned.”
