With an increase of 35.4% compared to the same month last year, Direct Investment in the Country (IDP) totaled US$ 4.7091 billion in January 2022. Even so, the number is below the level of US$ 5 billion in January 2020, period before the pandemic and the global economic crisis.
The numbers are from the External Sector note, released by the Central Bank this Wednesday (23). In addition to the return on Brazilian investments abroad, the IDP is made up of resources from equity participation and direct loans granted to subsidiaries of multinational companies in the country.
Last year, foreign investments in the country totaled US$ 46.4 billion, up 23% over the previous year.

Brazil’s external accounts registered a deficit of US$ 8.146 billion in January. The value is 2.3% better than the US$ 8,338 billion registered in the same month last year.
On the other hand, it is the smallest deficit for the month of January since 2018. The current account is made up of the trade balance, services purchased by Brazilians abroad and income, that is, remittances of interest, profits and dividends from the country to the outside.
