BC will hold debt negotiation task force and warn about over-indebtedness

The Central Bank, in partnership with the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) and the National Consumer Secretariat, will hold another round of online debt negotiation and financial guidance efforts in November.

This edition will take place from November 1st to 30th, with the presence of more than 160 financial institutions, and will issue an alert about over-indebtedness. In the last task force, held in March 2022, 1.7 million contracts in arrears for 25 days were negotiated.

According to the BC, individuals who have overdue debts contracted with banks or financial institutions not linked to assets given as collateral can participate. Interested parties should access the Mutirão page, where they will find guidance on how to negotiate overdue debt, as well as information on how to organize their finances and improve their financial health.

Negotiations of the task force will be carried out through the Consumidor.gov.br platform or through the direct channels of the participating institutions, available on the Task Force page.

Interested parties will also have access to the Registrato link, the Central Bank system with information on debts with banks and public agencies, returned checks, bills, Pix keys and foreign exchange operations, and the financial education platform Meu Bolso em Dia FEBRABAN.

This year, the campaign’s motto will be the warning about over-indebtedness. “By law, these over-indebted citizens are entitled to global renegotiation, with all creditors simultaneously, allowing for more adequate agreements than negotiating with each bank and the effective solution to the problem of over-indebtedness”, explains the BC, in a note.

In this way, the agency says that the orientation is that people with suspected over-indebtedness do not renegotiate their debts through the collective effort, but seek specialized help in consumer protection and defense agencies. The links will be available on the campaign page.
