Abilio Diniz is strength, determination and love. We always wanted to have you around here at CNN . Until one day, he paid a visit. And it was love at first sight: we combined our journalism with the power of his personality. And the Olhares Brasileiros and Caminhos programs were born.
I was responsible for the Caminhos seasons, here at CNN . And how grateful I am. There were so many classes. We wanted to show how our country could grow by listening to great leaders.
To each program, Abilio brought a lot of knowledge, but with a unique humility, listening to the interviewee and also giving his report. And, always at the end, he asked the audience: and you, what is your role in this, how can we do our part to make this country better?
We welcomed the biggest businesspeople in Brazil, from all sectors, and heard from political, economic and state leaders. Abilio's disposition was what caught the most attention. The thirst for knowledge, for learning, the desire to do better.
On the same day, we recorded a morning program in Brasília and another in the afternoon in São Paulo. Always alongside a fierce, faithful and talented team that accompanied him. Everything always made me very proud.
Here, I want to leave a personal story. Abilio brought me a strength that I no longer knew existed in myself. Whenever he arrived, he would give me a kiss and ask how I was, how everything could be better. And he always told me that I had to be happy, learn and share.
Even with the pain of his son, João Paulo's death, in 2022, his purpose has not changed. On the contrary, even more strength came. He always said he was lucky to have lived with his best friend for over 50 years. That no one would ever take away from him, this happiness. And that he would give him a hug at some point, again. He was sure of it.
Abilio was a friend. When I overcame an obstacle, no matter how simple it was, I had to tell him. He was proud that I had managed to overcome a goal, something he always taught me. Everything to have a better quality of life. After I told him, he told me to value these moments. And it ended with: celebrate!
Abilio helped me with my training. He said it all had to do with management. And there I went, with all the pride in the world, to learn on his course at FGV (Fundação Getúlio Vargas). Human management about being happy, learning and sharing, his mantra.
Abilio, thank you for so much. For teaching me, believing and honoring us here at CNN . I will always carry you within my heart, in my formation…. of my life. And our paths will always be crossed, in some way. Give your child a hug, celebrate their legacy. Around here, it will be eternal.
