BEA and EBEP for the fires in Attica

“The victims of the fire, families and businesses, need brave decisions from the Government, a set of urgent measures to support and restore the damages, with prominent ones to protect human livelihood and cover vital needs”.

This is what the president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce, Pavlos Ravanis, said in a statement regarding the evolution of the fires in Attica, which, as he states, “hurt the country once again and open new fronts of economic and social problems”.

Specifically, Mr. Ravanis states the following:

“The devastating passage of the fires causes deep wounds to dozens of Small and Medium Enterprises and Industries that are active in the wider region and are struggling with all their strength to cope in the midst of the energy crisis and after the coronavirus pandemic in the economy.

As the Chamber of Commerce of Athens we want to emphasize to our colleagues that in these difficult times we will be by their side, helping them in their desperate attempt to keep their properties standing. As soon as conditions permit, the recording of the Small and Medium Enterprises and Crafts affected by the fires will begin and the implementation of a comprehensive strategy for their immediate return to normality.

The victims of the fire, families and businesses, need brave decisions from the Government, a set of urgent measures to support and restore the damage, with prominent ones to protect human livelihoods and meet vital needs.

Because the impact of the fires comes at a time when the pandemic finds us as a country and society with new insecurities and the impasses for small and medium entrepreneurship are again ahead, the state apparatus must act with speed and intensity in dealing with the new data.

Without the mood of criticism and suggestions – which at this time are useless – but only with absolute empathy and a sense of responsibility, the Chamber of Commerce of Athens is close to the competent Authorities for any cooperation and at the same time, it will also activate its own internal procedures to support, with the means and means at its disposal, the businesses – its Members who are being tested and experiencing this new crisis”.

B. Korkidis

For his part, the president of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry V. Korkidis said:

“The first images of the devastating fire that is burning, once again, one of the most important green lungs of Attica, but also the property of citizens who found themselves in front of the fiery blaze, only cause sadness. Our first priority, as an organized state, is to ensure of human life, but also the protection of critical public vital infrastructure and citizens’ private property and, secondarily, taking measures to prevent similar disasters in the near future.Climate change may, to some extent, be the causative factor for the natural disasters that Europe has experienced and is experiencing, but it cannot be the alibi for these disasters to continue. The priority and common goal of the political leadership and the Region, in recent years, is to take care of prevention, since the suppression of the fire It is difficult to control. Let us hope that, today, the forces of the Fire Department, who are doing a tremendous job, will tame the fire fronts and prevent the spread of disasters. Let’s hope this is the last time we are spectators to a disaster that evokes unpleasant memories from previous summers.”
